Summer Update

It is only the beginning of summer and already very HOT! Evan is going to day camp and Chad did some volunteer work there for the last few weeks. Being inside a gym and swimming has sure helped them beat the heat. I'm sure that the daily snowballs have helped a bit, too.

Evan got his own part time job this week and is taking care of our neighbors' garden and cat while they are on vacation. He loves watering, feeding the cat and picking vegetables. The promise of getting paid helps, too. Here is some of what he came home with the other day:

Chad is looking forward to this weekend because he is going to participate in a youth conference called Stubenville on the Bayou. It lasts from Friday through Sunday and involves teens not only from Louisiana, but also from Texas, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida and Tennessee. It is spiritual in nature and he will get to enjoy music, activities, prayers, etc., with the other 3000 attendees. I can't wait to hear about his experience when he gets home on Sunday!

In addition to being hot, it has also been dry. We finally got some much needed rain last week. We also had some pea size hail and thunder, which I discovered Gwen didn't like too much when I found her hiding under our bed.

My husband has been quite handy this summer. We needed to get the boys some furniture for their playroom so they would have a place to sit when they play video games or watch t.v. We decided on a futon, which of course had to be assembled. Todd, with a little help from Evan, put it together in a snap. They are enjoying it already.

Flag Football 2010

Evan is playing flag football again this year and his team, the Dolphins, had their first two games this past Saturday. It was a sunny and HOT day out in the field where they were playing, so we were all sweating and drinking lots of water.

Evan's team lost both games, but they only had two practices beforehand, so I am sure they will improve as the season progresses. Go Dolphins!

Weekend Update

This was the second to the last weekend that the boys have before school starts, so they are determined to make the most of it. Friday night they went to a lock in at church. They ate pizza, played tons and games and got little sleep. Chad went to bed almost immediately after they got home on Saturday morning. Evan held out until about noon and then he took a four hour nap.

After recharging, we all went to the Mexican restaurant that Todd and I tried when the boys were in Texas. They both like it and we all left with full bellies.

We then caught a few more episodes of Avatar: the Last Airbender. We have been watching the series and are now on Book II, episode 6.

On Sunday we went to church services in New Orleans and then went to Nirvana (our favorite Indian restaurant) for lunch. Evan ate his weight in Naan (bread). We stayed inside most of the afternoon because it was very HOT. The boys went outside for about ten minutes and were soaked with sweat when they came back in.

The boys start their last week of day camp tomorrow. The school countdown is on!

Summer Cuts

Since Evan and Chad are going to be going to Texas in a week and it is incredibly hot, I decided it was time that we go and get their summer hair cuts. The "cool" thing for boys now is to have longish hair. Chad's hair is very wavy and really looks better short (IMO). He would like to have it longer, but was cooperative and went along with my plan.

Evan loved his haircut. He is outside a lot and the less maintenance that he has to do on his hair, the better. He wouldn't let me take a before photo, but was happy to show off his after look and the handful of tootsie rolls that he got as a treat from his stylist.

Sunny Sunday!

Summer is here; it got up to 94 degrees yesterday! That couldn't keep us inside, however. Chad and I spent some time practicing our golf swing. Evan kept himself busy hammering wood. In spite of the sweat, it was a fun, relaxing Sunday!
