Evan's Last Day of 3rd Grade

Evan woke up on Thursday in a great mood. With a big smile on his face he said, "This is the most wonderful day!" Yes, it was his last day of school until next year and he didn't hold back on the joy. 

In there morning there was a ceremony where all of the children got their report cards and awards. That was the only activity so it was a very short school day and we were out of there by 9:15 a.m. We said good bye to his teacher and friends and then we went to Michael's to find some craft supplies to keep him busy for the next few days until day camp begins next Monday. After about 15 minutes of searching, Evan decided on a model car and three bags of rocks. I questioned the rock selection since we already have lots of rocks at home. He said that he thought these rocks were a lot prettier than the ones we already have. Makes sense, I guess.

After all of that activity, we had worked up quite an appetite. So we went out and ate a nice lunch. Thus, it turned out to be a wonderful and fun day for both of us!

Evan's Spring Concert

Today Evan participated in the spring concert at his school. He still doesn't want me to put his photo on the blog, so no pics with this post. I was so proud of his performance in the concert. Typically, since he has started school in fact, he has pretty much just stood there, barely moving his lips during any type of singing performance. Today, he actually sung and even did a duet with another boy in his class. It was awesome to see him singing so confidently in front of a packed room of parents and teachers. Way to go Evan!

Evan's Christmas Performance

Prior to getting out of school for the Christmas holidays, Evan had a performance at his school. He and his class practiced songs for many days and he was excited about his special part, i.e, being a candle lighter. Todd's mom and Chad were both able to make the performance and cheer Evan on. Great job Evan and all the children at SMES!

Flat Stanley

This weekend it was Evan's turn to entertain Flat Stanley. Flat Stanley is a character from a book and every weekend, a different child in Evan's class gets to take him home. Then, during their time together, the child takes pictures and documents the adventures that he/she and Flat Stanley have in Flat Stanley's journal. We had a blast just looking at the journal and seeing everything that Flat Stanley has already done this year. You can see why Evan loves school. They are always doing something fun.

School Festival

On Saturday afternoon Evan and I headed out to his annual school festival. They had lots of fun booths for children of all ages.

One Down, Many More to Go

We have had a pretty typical week. One bit of good news is that we finally made a decision on what sofa to get for our living room. It is on order and should be here in about three weeks. Once we have that, the rest of the decorating should be easy, right? Luckily, I have a good friend who is a decorating diva. Once decision down, one million more to go.


Evan went on a field trip to the Acadian Village in Lafayette today. It is a recreation of what a typical Cajun village looked like in 1800. He had a good time. His favorite part of the trip was the gift shop. He bought a mini deck of playing cards and two ceramic rocks that look like alligator eggs with mini alligators coming out of them. Oh, he also liked that the bus they rode on had a bathroom and that they got to watch movies there and back.

Evan's Class Cookbook

Evan has been doing a lot of creative things in school this year. Last week each person in his class contributed a recipe to the teacher. She compiled them all and made a class cookbook for each student. What a great way to practice writing and create a remembrance at the same time!

On The Mend

We had a full Saturday. Chad went to his friend Jacques' house all day to play. They had a great time playing and enjoying the day together. They were supposed to get together for Chad's birthday, but it was postponed due to Evan being sick.

Jacques' family took Chad out to eat at Zen. Since they were celebrating Chad's birthday, he got to eat free. What a bonus to the great day!

Evan is on the mend. He still has a little bit of a cough and an earache, but I think he will be well enough to start school tomorrow.

In the evening, Evan's school hosted a back to school ice cream social. We met his teacher, picked up his information packet and greeted old friends. We took a tour of his classroom and saw that his desk is between two female classmates. I am hoping this helps with some of the "playing" that he tends to get into when he is sitting next to one of his buddies.

Hope springs eternal.

Evan's Last Day of 2nd Grade

Evan had his official last day of 2nd grade today. This morning his school had an awards ceremony and handed out report cards and announced achievements. Each child is recognized for one of their unique gifts. The gift that Evan was recognized this year was "Forgiveness and Displaying Unselfishness." We are so very proud of Evan, who is now headed off to 3rd grade!
