Summer - Almost Over?

The boys continue to enjoy their summer. They only have three weeks left until school starts so we have been stocking up on school supplies and buying uniforms.

Here are a couple of random photos from this weekend. Chad isn't in any of them. All his free time has been spent in a dark room playing his Harry Potter game. He already went through the whole game once. Hope it has a lot of replay value!

Official End of Summer

We enjoyed the long, lazy Labor Day weekend watching football and movies and doing crafts. At the start of the weekend, Todd headed to Hobby Lobby and stocked up on supplies. He got some laces to make key chains, loops and a frame to make pot holders and a couple of rubber band airplanes. I took Evan for a haircut and we stopped by Target for some new legos to add to the mix. 

Chad and Evan both did pretty well on the key chains. I had to start them off for them, which was not a problem since I remembered learning how to make them at camp when I was a kid. Evan got bored with making the pot holders about half way in and switched to making some lego vehicles. Todd finished Evan's holder and then went on to make another one. Yes, my husband is a jack of all trades and very crafty! Check out the results below:

Crafts Galore!

Evan also had fun with his rubber band plane. It is made of lightweight wood and has a rubber band underneath that you tighten by turning the propeller. When you put it down and let it go, it takes off into the air. Here is Evan demonstrating it for me:

Pancakes

The last time Evan went to visit at my parents house, he fell in love with her pancakes. Well, when he visited her two weeks ago, he learned at the master's feet, so to speak. He came back and couldn't wait to show off his cooking skills and make pancakes for our family. On Saturday he got his chance and it was a huge success!

Evan's Last Day of 3rd Grade

Evan woke up on Thursday in a great mood. With a big smile on his face he said, "This is the most wonderful day!" Yes, it was his last day of school until next year and he didn't hold back on the joy. 

In there morning there was a ceremony where all of the children got their report cards and awards. That was the only activity so it was a very short school day and we were out of there by 9:15 a.m. We said good bye to his teacher and friends and then we went to Michael's to find some craft supplies to keep him busy for the next few days until day camp begins next Monday. After about 15 minutes of searching, Evan decided on a model car and three bags of rocks. I questioned the rock selection since we already have lots of rocks at home. He said that he thought these rocks were a lot prettier than the ones we already have. Makes sense, I guess.

After all of that activity, we had worked up quite an appetite. So we went out and ate a nice lunch. Thus, it turned out to be a wonderful and fun day for both of us!

Go Saints & Crafty Evan

Everyone at our house is rooting for the Saints today. Todd has a life long love of the Saints and both of our boys are very aware of that.

In honor of the game today, Evan made Todd a Saints necklace. Todd is wearing it up until game time but then has to take it off because it isn't part of the lucky outfit that Todd wears for every game. I'm sure the team appreciates Todd's consideration!

Crafty Boys

Since the boys are out of school for Thanksgiving vacation, we made a trip to the local craft store to get some supplies and projects. Evan picked out clay and some wooden craft kits that make 3-d puzzles. Chad got a super ball making kit and the supplies to decorate a lifebuoy that he wants to hang in his room.


Evan got right to work on the easiest wooden puzzle...a scorpion. I think Todd gave him a little help and it turned out great. He took the next puzzle apart, but I haven't seen too much progress on that one, so it may be a little more difficult than the first one.


The clay has not been a great success. The first day Evan took it and made patterns in it by pressing it into the carpet. Needless to say, Todd was not happy when he walked in the room and found yellow, pink, blue and green clay marks all over the carpet.


Evan and I spent part of the morning yesterday trying different concoctions to get the clay out. The problem was that Evan got a new type of clay that won't dry out or get hard. Thus, it took us quite a bit of scrubbing to lighten all of the marks.


Chad has made some of the super balls, which he enjoyed. Next to the painting project!

Evan can't wait to work on his wood projects!

Crafty Evan

Last night Evan was in a crafting mood. He decided that it would be fun to make some bracelets.


I got out a box of beads and he immediately started picking out beads and designing a pattern. He made an orange and black one with a cute pumpkin bead and flower charm for his teacher.


He then made a cute Christmas one for himself:



He really loves the character beads.
